Water excursions
Lunch included for a full-day option only | half-day and full-day excursions | Starts at 09h00
Escape the crowds and discover the natural beauty of Pungume Island, a beautiful destination off Zanzibar's southern coast. Known for its turquoise waters, coral formations, and fascinating marine life, Pungume offers an appealing setting for snorkelling, swimming, and relaxing in the Indian Ocean. Near the southern reaches of the Menai Bay Marine Conservation Area, the island and surrounding waters offer opportunities to explore Zanzibar’s rich marine environment in a peaceful coastal setting. Your excursion typically begins in Kizimkazi, a traditional fishing village on Zanzibar’s southern coast. From there, enjoy a scenic boat journey across the ocean towards Pungume, with the route and travel time depending on sea conditions and the departure point. Once you arrive, put on your snorkelling equipment and discover the underwater world. Depending on visibility and marine conditions, you may encounter colourful tropical fish, rays, moray eels, lionfish, starfish, and a variety of coral formations.
The Pungume full-day option includes a visit to Pungume Sandbank, where you can swim, sunbathe, take photographs, and enjoy the tranquillity of the surrounding turquoise waters. While our company does not offer traditional visits to dolphins for sustainability reasons, we do not offer dolphin sightseeing on this excursion. You can often arrange a freshly prepared seafood barbecue lunch on the sandbank, with dishes such as fish, prawns, octopus, or calamari, depending on availability. For travellers seeking a combination of marine discovery, beautiful scenery, and relaxation, Pungume is an excellent addition to a Zanzibar holiday.
